Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are said to be considering going back to court in their fight against Facebook according to the news article in the New York Times Twins’ Facebook Fight Rages On, Dec 30, 2010. Wow, just when there's a movie out possibly awaiting an Oscar I find it staggering to think about this once again, just like in the movie, what really happened?

My take on them is largely from the movie itself, but quite frankly, after reading all the snippets thus far, the brothers are pretty much like the movie's description, except that their dedication to the sport is even deeper than in the movie. So, I can form an opinion, but what are my facts? So, let me not talk about events I really don't know, but I can still form an impression right or wrong though it may be.

Their original idea of Harvard Connection, seems to have been driven towards universities, hence implying young people and quite possibly exclusive ones at rich universities, in other words a select club. At my former company we had solicited ideas, and many took delight in coming up with one idea after another, most of which got rejected as show ideas. Occasionally someone would solicit me with a concept nervously careful not to reveal too much of their idea lest I would "steal" it. After their asking me whether any "deal" can be made in order for them to share their idea, I finally had to stop them and tell them this: "The idea is the least important part of the making of a show and bringing it to fruition."

In fact, even shows that were conceived and developed by our own staff often ended up in the hands of "other" producers and developers and occasionally totally excluding the "concept originator." With this kind of background when I hear someone complain that they "stole" my idea, unless it is a writer who actually had printed concepts submitted, or someone who actually did program and did groundwork on a project, my attitude is thanks for the idea, and that's all you're worth, perhaps a bit more depending on what you did on it.

I realize it is unkind to the two brothers, but I have yet to see or hear about anything that got further than an idea, and the fact that they, along with their priviliged wealthy, had to "hire" someone to "do it" makes me less interested in them and their concept. The initial idea is sometimes seminal, and sometimes a beginning work is a key to the rest of a project, but even then, a project is a long distance run just like one of their races, you have to finish it. Maybe the brothers should just move on with their settlement and finish it as well.
